When I was asked as a child what do you want to become? - I answered everyone: Olympic champion! In fulfilling childhood dream of a 25-year-old athlete, who at a young age in her homeland, had to end her career against her will, this time the Georgian Fencing Federation and the president of the federation himself, Merab Bazadze, are helping. Meet Arina Korneeva, epee fencer. Arina was born in Samara and from the age of 3 she was fond of gymnastics, at the age of 9 she could not stand the harsh and rude attitude of the coaches and, despite good results, refused to train. And then, at first glance, one ordinary day completely changed her life, Arina saw on TV Madonna's music clip Die Another Day (the video shows fencing in a rather original way). It took Arina a year to convince her parents to take her to the fencing section. The desire and zeal were so great that soon success was achieved first on a city and regional scale, then the country and, finally, internationally. At the age of 14, she fulfilled the “master of sports” standard, but because of her age she had to wait a year and repeat this success in order to be awarded the title of “master of sports”. After successfully performing in domestic and international tournaments, in the 2011/12 season she was the leader of the European cadet rankings, and the following year finished in second place. At the European Championship among cadets in 2013, Arina Skolisheva (her husband's last name) won the team silver medal in Budapest, and took 5th place in the individual championship. It was hard and painful, but at the age of 20 she decided to end her career. Studying became a priority, at the same time she began to be a coach, although she really wanted to return to the fencing piste and fulfill her life dream, she simply did not see the point in continuing her career in Russia. She returned to active fencing by accident. In the spring, at one of the World Cups held in Russia, as a guest, she met one of the world's outstanding epee trainer , Frenchman Daniel Levavasseur. He knew about the current situation. Worried that at one time a very talented fencer ended her career prematurely, he offered to fence on behalf of another country as one of the options for returning to the fencing piste. He recalled that, for example, Georgia had a similar case, where his compatriot and colleague Christian Bauer was a consultant and promised mediation with the president of the federation. Then another dream came true - a visit to Georgia. Personal acquaintance with the president of the federation, with Georgia and the Georgian people. The decision was soon made. Moving to Tbilisi with her husband, an amateur fencer Zakhary Korneev. The main reason, along with her great desire, was the environment she met in Tbilisi, the vision and desire of Merab Bazadze to develop fencing and bring it to a completely different level, in which Arina Korneeva really wants to participate. A new athlete on a team is always associated with great danger. Someone is satisfied and does not miss the chance to gain international experience, someone is afraid of competition. At this age, a professional athlete always realizes that being away from home, relatives and friends is a great responsibility. Arina's dream is the same as in childhood - to become an Olympic champion ... and today she is grateful to the country, the federation, the people who gave her a chance, personally to Merab Bazadze…Arina Korneeva promises that she will do everything to please the Georgian fans.
